Sub-service: Well Technology
Dynaflow Research group assists well operators and manufacturers of well equipment in the design and validation of techniques used for well operation/procedures. We also provide support in well abandonment modelling using Computer Fluid Dynamics.
Examples of recent projects:
- Predicting displacement efficiency of a fluid-fluid displacement method used to seal wells. DRG used recent Computer Fluid Dynamics (CFD) techniques to achieve this. Click here to read more about Well Technology.
- Development of a novel directional drilling tools were the flow mechanisms were studied to optimise performance of a drilling tool. This project enhanced the client to market the new tool as a competitive alternative to existing directional drilling tools.
- Application of new materials in Geothermal wells. Composites like glass reinforced plastic (GRP) tubing are currently introduced to replace conventional carbon steel tubing that suffer from severe corrosion. The design of these composite materials is relatively new to this part of the industry. DRG carried out design calculations for a GRP manufacturer to demonstrate the long term integrity of GRP tubing for application for a new geothermal well in the Netherlands.
