The DRG Laboratory – In-house testing at Dynaflow

The DRG Laboratory allows us to perform in-house tests on Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) piping. The last decade we have experienced strong growth in the demand for Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) piping tests. For quality control purposes, testing of these materials and products is very important. By performing these tests in-house, we can provide accurate results with extensive interpretations in a limited amount of time.

One of the tests most often conducted in our laboratory is tensile testing of pipe samples. These tests are typically done conform ASTM D2105. This test provides insight into the tensile strength of the tested materials and can for example be used in a Root Cause Failure Analysis to rule out or find deviations in the material specifications. Tensile testing can also be applied to other materials like rubber hoses or steel.

Another important test that is only relevant for Fiberglass materials is the LOI test. This test verifies the quality of the fiberglass material with glass content testing through Loss on Ignition (LOI) tests. This is done conform the ASTM D2584 and can be used to determine the resin to glass ratio of the test sample. In addition, the build-up of the glass in the wall laminate can be studied.

Finally, surface testing is possible through Barcol hardness tests and optical microscope assessments. Curing of the plastic matrix can be assessed and surface defects can be discovered this way.

Using our DRG Laboratory we can provide independent, third-pary insights into the quality of fiberglass pipes. This can be used during the sourcing or project phase, but also for root cause failure analysis at a later stage. We have partnerships with several dedicated material testing companies in case other tests are required than the ones we provide in-house, to provide our Clients with a complete suite of testing capacity.

We are proud to add the DRG Laboratory to our range of services to help and support our clients when working with fiberglass and other materials.
