On February the 21st and 22nd, Dynaflow Research Group will provide a technical presentation during the SPE Symposium: Non-Metallics—Disruptive Solutions for Sustainable and Cost-Effective Assets in Abu Dhabi. Our Project Engineer, Mr. Edwin Schimmel, presents “Innovative Approach to Determine Failure and Service Envelope of GRE (Glass Reinforced Epoxy) Tubulars and its Relation with the Traditional OCTG (Oil Country Tubular Goods) Evaluation Philosophy” together with Mr. Javier Holzmann, Director of Full Scale Testing Lab at the Clausthal University of Technology. Due to Edwin’s expertise in fiberglass piping for industrial applications, Edwin will discuss the theoretical model and testing of failure modes for GRE pipes under compressive loading, expanding the GRE failure envelope into the third and fourth quadrant.
The presentation is part of the session: “Engineering Standards, Construction Approaches, and Qualification Guidelines for Non-Metallic Downholes”. The design, materials, qualification, construction, and installation of non-metallic pipes and their fittings are commonly governed by engineering standards and best practices, ensuring that pipelines are designed to address the aggressive operating environments typically encountered within the energy sector.
Edwin Schimmel is a Project Engineer at Dynaflow Research Group. After his M.Sc. specialization within the field of Engineering Mechanics, Edwin joined Dynaflow Research Group in 2010. During his years at Dynaflow Research Group, Edwin specialized in fiberglass piping for industrial applications within the sectors of Oil & Gas, Energy, Water, and Chemicals; employing his expertise as a specialist in various projects involving design, root-cause analysis of failures, due diligence studies, and third-party reviews in EPC projects. Edwin is actively involved in the fiberglass community, participating in research projects for fiberglass piping materials, teaching fiberglass engineering courses, and is a member of the ISO 14692 committee that writes and maintains the ISO fiberglass design standard.
