BOSfluids 8.0 Improved Cavitation Models

BOSfluids can simulate the formation and collapse of vapor cavities in piping systems by using different cavitation models, including the widely-used Discrete Vapor Cavity Model (DVCM) and Discrete Gas Cavity Model (DGCM). Although these models were originally developed for simulating relatively small vapor cavities, they have been extended in BOSfluids to handle vapor cavities that span multiple calculation grid cells.

BOSfluids, improved cavitation models, slack flow

In BOSfluids 8.0 these models have seen more improvements that result in a more accurate and robust prediction of the pressure surges resulting from vapor cavity collapse. In particular, the DVCM has been enhanced by applying a linear interpolation scheme to improve the way in which the last and most critical phase of vapor cavity collapse is simulated. In addition to that, both the DVCM and DGCM have been enhanced so that they lead to more stable results in slack-flow-like conditions when vapor cavities tend to span multiple grid cells.
